Chilatherina spec. “Kali Unggalum”

Neue Chilatherina kommen eher selten ins Hobby und so hat es mich sehr gefreut, bei einer Reise ins Keerom-Gebiet, dem oberen Einzug des Mamberamo-Zuflusses Taritatu, unmittelbar an der Grenze zu Papua-Neuguinea, eine neue Chilatherina zu finden. Eigentlich sollte man meinen, dass im Mamberamo überall die gleiche Chilatherina zu finden ist (wir kennen die Tieflandformen unter den Fundortnahmen „Pagai“ und Faowi“), aber weit gefehlt: im Keerom-Gebiet sind die Chilatherina blau! Balzende Männchen färben sich dunkel, der Rücken und die Flossen leuchten in metallischem Blau. Sehr leicht zu halten, anspruchslos und schön.

New Chilatherina are rarely arriving in the hobby so I was really happy to find a new one on a trip to the Keerom-Region which is located at the upper reaches of the Taritatu (Mamberamo drainage) closely to the border to Papua-New Guinea. You should think that all Chilatherina in the Mamberamo look the same (like the lowland forms “Pagai” and “Faowi”), but it turned out that Chilatherina from this part of the Keerom are blue! Posing males turn dark, the dorsal part of the body and the fins shine in metallic blue. Easy to keep, no special requests and beautiful.
