Glossolepis dorityi

Diese überaus attraktive Art kommt in Neuguinea in kleinen Seen im System des Grime River vor. Der Typusfundort ist der Lake Nenggwambu in der Nähe des Dorfes Berap. Von dort stammen meine Tiere, die ich 2008 zusammen mit Dan Dority und Gary Lange dort selbst gesammelt habe. Bislang wurde die Art in zwei weiteren Seen gefunden, dem Lake Jaigum und dem Lake Tum. Beide liegen in unmittelbarer Nähe des Typusfundortes. Der Bestand im Lake Nenggwambu ist durch eingesetzte Nutzfische (Karpfen, Schlangenkopffische) stark bedroht. Im Lake Jaigum wurden zuletzt keine G. dorityi mehr gesehen. Im Lake Tum haben wir 2012 G. dorityi in geringer Zahl gesehen.

Ab und zu werden G. dorityi unter Fundortbezeichnungen wie z.B. „Jaigum“ oder „Kali Biru“ angeboten. Das ist falsch. Es gibt bislang keine Varianten von G. dorityi. Außerdem sind Hybriden zwischen G. dorityi und G. pseudoincisus im Umlauf, die als G. dorityi angeboten werden.

Echte G. dorityi sind ein eindrucksvoller Anblick. Dies ist einer der schönsten Regenbogenfische überhaupt. Erwachsene Männchen werden über 12 cm lang und sind rot mit blauen Wellenlinien. Die Haltung ist unproblematisch, genügend Platz vorausgesetzt. Man sollte darauf achten, dass der pH nicht zu tief sinkt, das mögen sie nicht. pH 7 aufwärts ist in Ordnung.

This very attractive species lives in small lakes in the system of the Grime River in New Guinea. The type location is Lake Nenggwambu close to the village of Berap. My breedings stock originates from there, where I collected them myself together with Dan Dority and Gary Lange. So far this species has been found only in two other lakes, Lake Jaigum and Lake Tum. Both lakes are very close to the type location. The population in Lake Nenggwambu is endangered due to introduced food fish (Carp, Snakehead). In Lake Jaigum no G. dorityi have been seen so according to the latest information. In Lake Tum we saw G. dorityi in 2012 in small numbers.

Sometimes G. dorityi are offered under location names like “Jaigum” or “Kali Biru”. This is wrong. There are no variants of G. dorityi so far. Furthermore, hybrids of G. dorityi and G. pseudoincisus are offered sometimes under the name G. dorityi.

Real G. dorityi make an impressive sight. This is one of the most beautiful rainbowfishes of all. Adult males reach 12 cm or more and are red with blue zig-zag-lines. Keeping is easy provided they have enough space. Care should be taken to the pH of the water which shall not go to acid conditions. They don´t like that. pH 7 or above is OK.
