Melanotaenia spec. „Pianfon Creek“

Der Pianfon-See liegt etwa 150 km westlich von Sentani auf der Nordseite von Neuguinea. In einem Bach, der diesem See zufließt, wurde im August 2010 diese unbeschriebene Art entdeckt. Der Weg zum Fundort führt durch einen Wald voller Sumpflöcher und Land-Blutegel. Diese neue Art gehört zweifellos zu den größer werdenden Arten. Der DNA-Analyse zufolge ist sie nahe mit M. japenensis und M. vanheurni verwandt. Die Farben sind sehr unterschiedlich je nach Blickwinkel und Beleuchtung. Am schönsten wirken diese Tiere, wenn sie im Aquarium von der Morgensonne angestrahlt werden. Dann tragen sie ihren Namen „Regenbogenfische“ zu Recht. Die Haltung ist problemlos. Die Größe erwachsener Tiere ist nicht bekannt, dürfte aber jedenfalls bei 10 cm liegen.

Lake Pianfon is located about 150 km west of Sentani on the northern side of New Guinea. This undescribed species was discovered in august 2010 in a small creek flowing towards this lake. The way to this location leads through a forest full of mud and leeches. This is withouth doubt one of the larger species. According to DNA-Analysis, it is closely related to M. japenensis and M. vanheurni. The colours of this species vary very much to view angle and lighting. Most beautiful is when they are illuminated by the morning sun. Then they prove the name “Rainbowfish”. Keeping in the aquarium is without problems. Size of adults is yet not known, but may be at least 10 cm.
