Melanotaenia spec. „Kali Timbuni“

Von der Halbinsel Vogelkop im Westen Neuguineas kommt diese Art. Der Fundort liegt nicht weit von der Stadt Bintuni im Süden der Halbinsel entfernt. Wir haben diese Art im August 2017 entdeckt. Erwachsene Männchen bestechen durch Körperfarben in rot und orange, mit roten Flossen und einem dunklen Flossenrand. Es besteht eine Ähnlichkeit zu der 2013 beschriebenen Art M. manibuii, ob es sich aber um diese Art handelt ist unklar, weil die Fundorte durch einen Höhenzug getrennt sind. Diese Art lebt in der Natur in härterem Wasser. Am Fundort hatte das Wasser eine Leitfähigkeit von 390 uS, pH 8, KH 14°dH und GH über 20°dH bei einer Temperatur von 27°C. Diese Art ist sehr leicht zu halten und zu vermehren.

This species originates from Vogelkop Peninsula in western New Guinea. We discovered this species in August 2017. The collection place is not far from the town of Bintuni in the southern part of the peninsula. Adult males show brilliant colors in red and orange, with red fins with black margin. There is some similarity to M. manibuii as described in 2013. It is yet unclear if it is the same species, as the collection places are separated by a mountain ridge. This species lives in harder water. We measured a conductivity of 390 uS, pH 8, carbonate hardness 250 ppm, total hardness over 360 ppm, at a temperature of 27°C. This species is easy to keep and breed.
